Swing

Mr. No-Pants and I have been talking lately about homosexuality and the things people think about it all. We've agreed that everyone has, at one point or another, at least considered what it might be like to kiss another girl/guy. Frankly, anyone who won't admit that is LYING!

I have never understood what threat homosexuality poses to the rest of the world. I mean, what difference does it make to my life if the woman next door has a girlfriend? Am I suddenly going to stop loving my husband because that woman loves a woman? Are my children destined to become rebellious hellions because they saw two women holding hands? (despite the fact that I've seen women holding hands before who had no sexual relationship... I hold my mother's hand in public)

I know people argue about how it will bring down marriage as we know it. Is that really such a bad thing? Marriage as we know it is full of people who are not in love, people who get married for the wrong reasons, people who abuse one another... How could the world be made anything but better by having people who really love each other get together and raise a family? How could the world be anything but better if people started to except one another for what they truly were instead of what we thought they ought to be?

I have such a hard time understanding what drives people to hate the way that they do. I don't see why we can't all just live our lives and let others do the same. Live and let live?

Sometimes this thought process makes me feel naive, but I'd like to hold onto it anyway.

Professional Success

A simple email earned me a place as a volunteer docent (tour leader) at the William Paca House, an 18th century historic home/museum in downtown Annapolis.

A meeting with the docent coordinator earned her approval, which has now led to me getting to take on some really exciting projects. I am helping with the redesign of Maryland Day children's activities. I am being asked to take on further projects involving research and events. Yesterday I was invited along to a ribbon cutting ceremony at Londontown. The picture above is from yesterday's reception.

Now I have been told that I will likely be hired on to work some paid hours in the very near future. I am absolutely thrilled about how things are progressing. I am so excited about the prospect of an official position with Historic Annapolis Foundation. I love everything I have been involved in so far. It's odd to think of me working in an American history field, as I have never thought of it as interesting, but my work with the Paca house is really changing my view of it all.

Woo, and also Hoo!
